West River Watershed
Map of the
West River Watershed in Vermont
This page lists data that were developed as part of the West River Watershed inventory project. Work on the inventory was performed in 1999 and 2002. Completion of this work was assisted in part with 604(b) Clean Water Act funding provided by the State of Vermont, Department of Environmental Conservation.

Year 2002 work included an extensive inventory of public access along the West River, Rock River, Wardsboro Brook, the Winhall River, and waterbodies having a surface area of greater than 20 acres. This inventory includes formal and informal access sites, documented with information on use. Also included are locations where public roads cross or run along side these waters, and areas were these waters pass through or border public lands.

Much of the data developed in 1999 were based upon input from local citizens that participated in a number of West River Watershed forums held during the early part of 1999. These citizen data were supplemented in a number of cases by other publicly available data, and information gathered from existing reports. Still other data were developed from information provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources.

General water resources and hydrography data for the entire Windham Region can be found on the Water Resources Data page.

ALSA96 Extent of American Shad Identifies streams containing American Shad in 1996. These streams were identified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in a polygon GIS file. Information transfered to 1:100K DLG hydrography data by WRC. Current to 1996. | VGIS documentation | [LINE coverage]
BEEC_WQ BEEC water quality monitoring sites Contains historic Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC) water quality monitoring sites, including site descriptions and fecal coliform sampling during the year 2000, and site location accuracy. | VGIS documentation | FGDC metadata | [POINT coverage]
BOATACCS Boater access Locations that the public use to gain access to boating waters. These data come from citizen input and a Vermont Agency of Natural Resources database; the existence and location of many features has not been verified. The features identified in this coverage are places where boaters routinely access waters. They may not be official boat launching sites. Current to 1999. | VGIS documentation | [POINT coverage]
BOATING Boating waters Identifies waters that are important for boating. The data came from citizen input; the data have not been verified. Current to 1999. | VGIS documentation | [NETWORK coverage]
C-MIG Potential migratory fish extent Identifies potential migratory fish extent. These streams were identified by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in a polygon GIS file. Information transfered to 1:100K DLG hydrography data by WRC. Current to 1996. | VGIS documentation | [LINE coverage]
EROSION Erosion sites Point locations of sites were erosion is occurring. The data come from citizen input; the existence and location of many features has not been verified. Current to 1999. | VGIS documentation | [POINT coverage]
