| GIS Data for Jamaica, Vermont |
Stratton Mountain in background |
This page lists data that are unique to the Town of Jamaica, Vermont. These data were developed by the Windham Regional Commission between 1995 and the present. Data development work has been undertaken for a variety of projects in Jamaica. First, data were developed to produce maps for the 1996 Jamaica Town Plan. The following year, an updated Proposed Land Use map was created, and GIS support was given to a town-wide economic development study. In 2000, a water and sewer capacity study required the development of a number of data layers for Jamaica village. The base features, namely building footprints and parcels, are described here. Several other data layers, including the approximate location of wells and septic systems, are not detailed on this page. In 2001, the Windham Regional Commission began looking at the villages along the Route 30 corridor for the purposes of studying traffic calming solutions. The building footprint data developed for the septic study was updated and refined for structures along Route 30, and several additional layers were developed for cartographic purposes. Additional VGIS data exist for Jamaica. These data are generally produced on a state-wide basis and are available from the Vermont Center for Geographic Information, http://www.vcgi.org.

| BEAR | black bear travel corridors | This coverage contains the location of black bear travel corridors in the vicinity of Stratton, Vermont. Black bear travel corridors, according to Forrest Hammond, biologist with the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, are forested habitats that are regionally important and are used by large numbers of bears to access critical seasonal foods or to link bear ranges and sub-populations. | CLASS_A | Class A(1) watersheds (ecological waters) | Class A waters in Vermont include Class A(1) waters, or "ecological waters" and Class A(2) waters, or "public water supply waters." This coverage contains watersheds of all Class A(1) ecological waters in Jamaica, which include Cobb Brook and Kidder Brook. Watersheds of Class A(2) waters can be found in the VGIS SPA\SWSPA coverage. Current to 2000. | VGIS documentation | [NET coverage] |
| CONTOUR | 50' contours | This coverage series contains generalized 50-foot contours for selected towns in the Windham Region, and is tiled by town. It is available for only selected towns in the region. The coverage is based on the VGIS coverages CNnnnn, which contain 50-foot contours generated from 7.5 minute USGS DEM's. These VGIS coverages have been edited by WRC improve their graphical appearance only (not their accuracy!). Current to 2000. | FGDC metadata | [LINE coverage] |
| ED_SITES | sites suitable for commercial & industrial development | This coverage identifies sites suitable for commercial and industrial development in the Town of Jamaica, Vermont.| VGIS metadata | [POLY coverage] |
| JPARCEL | parcels along the West River | This is a rough draft coverage used for the West River Trail project. In 1999, there is only one such stream designation in all of the Windham Region: a portion Ball Mountain Brook from its junction with Kidder Brook 4000' feet downstream. This arc was extracted from the VGIS SWnnnn 1:5000 surface waters coverage. | VGIS documentation | [LINE coverage] |
| PLU2001 | proposed land use districts, 2001 | The proposed land use districts in this coverage are those found in the 2001 Jamaica Town Plan. GIS data of the district boundaries were initially developed in 1996, and were based upon an existing 1:24000 scale paper map. District boundaries were either digitized from this paper map or were developed using existing GIS data where boundaries were coincident with existing mapped features. At that time, a number of new, revised commercial-residential zones were added. In 2001, the data were updated, with several commercial-residential zones removed. | VGIS documentation | [NET coverage] |

It contains only primary structures and its spatial accuracy is not quite as good as this coverage. Also, building footprint data are available for Jamaica village. | [POINT coverage] |
