This page lists data that are unique to the downtown area of the Village of Bellows Falls, Vermont. These data were developed primarily for the 1999 Bellows Falls Downtown Development District project where Windham Regional Commission provided assistance to the Town of Rockingham in obtaining official downtown designation for Bellows Falls.

The data developed for the downtown study are primarily building and parcel related. Other data include a variety of base data used for GIS mapping, a commercial and industrial buildings inventory encompassing the entire Town of Rockingham, and data on parking and street lighting.

Additional data that cover the Town of Rockingham, which includes the Village of Bellows Falls, do exist, but are not included in this list. The purpose of this list of data is to solely document the data created or utilized in the 1999 downtown project.

These data are pcArc/Info coverages or associated DBF files, and are intended for use in ESRI's Arc/Info or ArcView software by GIS professionals. For non-GIS folks, some of these data have been modified for use with ArcExplorer, ESRI's free, public domain GIS data viewing software. These ArcExplorer-friendly data will soon be assembled together with ArcExplorer "project files" (i.e. files that are read by ArcExplorer software to display the GIS data a certain way) and made available to the public.

COMMBLDG commercial and industrial building locations Commercial and industrial buildings in the Town of Rockingham with a footprint of 2000 square feet or greater, and all primary commercial buildings in the downtown core. This coverage links to the database ROCKNGHM.DBF which contains detailed information on these buildings. These data are also available joined together in one coverage for use in ArcExplorer. FT_PRINT building footprints Building footprints in the village of Bellows Falls. These data were derived from 1974-vintage 1:1250 Vermont Base Maps. Data in the downtown district were updated to reflect 1999 conditions, but data outside the district were not updated, and therefore reflect 1974 conditions. This coverage links to two databases that contain information on those buildings in the downtown district: BUILDING.DBF, and HISTORIC.DBF. DTWNDIST Bellows Falls Downtown Development District boundary Contains the Bellows Falls Downtown Development District boundaries, as approved by the Rockingham Select Board in April 1999. BFPARCEL Village of Bellows Falls parcels Contains parcel boundaries for the village of Bellows Falls. These data were derived from AutoCAD DXF files and have been edited for GIS use in the downtown district only. Data outside the district was not edited. This coverage links to a database containing parcel data in the downtown district: PARCEL.DBF. RD_1250 street edges Edges of streets in the Village of Bellows Falls. These data were derived from 1974-vintage 1:1250 Vermont Base Maps, but have been updated to 1999 to depict the new location of the bridge to North Walpole, N.H. (the old arc bridge). [LINE coverage]

BFRR railroads (main line) Main railroad lines in the Village of Bellows Falls. This is a "cartographic" coverage in that it contains gaps where the railroad goes through the downtown tunnel and passes under the "new arch bridge." These data were derived from 1974-vintage 1:1250 Vermont Base Maps, but have been updated to 1999. [LINE coverage]

CONNRIVR surface waters (Conn. River and canal) The Connecticut River and power canal in the Village of Bellows Falls. This is a "cartographic" coverage in that it contains gaps where the river and canal pass under bridges and where dams cross the river or canal. Non-cartographic surface waters data are available for the entire town. These data were developed from 1:5000 orthophotos. [NET coverage]

LIGHTS streetlights Public streetlights in the downtown district, including information on whether they are "historic" or "traditional" style. PARKING parking spaces Inventory of public parking spaces in the downtown district. Several lots in the downtown core that contain publicly-accessible privately-owned spaces (e.g. Arch Bridge plaza parking lot) are also included. This coverage does not contain precise locations of each parking space. It was instead produced to give a general idea of the location and quantity of parking in downtown. PARKLOTS public and private parking areas Inventory of public parking lots, and areas used for private parking the downtown district. The purpose is to give a general idea of the location of concentrated parking downtown. It includes all public parking lots (including several areas of diagonal parking that could be construed as "on-street"), and areas on private land used for parking (excluding driveways). These latter areas include parking lots for private business and informal areas used for parking by a number of cars.
